I hear it everyday, multiple times a day. Walking down the halls of work. In the check out line at the grocery store. Sitting in a room with a patient. And in between my own ears.
“I’m just a _____.”
Women do this all the time. We diminish our roles, and through that, our very existence. It’s not even a conscious word in our vocabulary, but when we add a “just” in before whatever word fills in that blank, we are stripping ourselves of value.
Here’s all I want to say.
Women, you are not “just” anything. Whatever fills in that blank for you holds deep meaning and value. Whatever role God has you in, it’s powerful. Whatever season of life you are in, it matters.
You’re not “just” a wife. You’re not “just” a mom. You’re not “just” a friend, a daughter, a sister, a co-worker. You’re not “just” a woman.
You are beauty in the flesh. You are someone’s resting place. You are your children’s heart. You are the core of your family. You are home base.
You are the only woman in the world like you! You’re extraordinary. You’re enchanting, delightful, captivating. You’re unique. You’re brave, strong, and courageous.
No one can do what you do quite like you do it.
So stop putting the “just” in front of that blank space. Own the many roles you fulfill and be proud of each and every one. Whatever they are.
You’re not “just” anything.
You’re YOU, and that’s enough!
Make it a great day!
Hear, hear!!!

Yes yes yes! I have heard this before and said this before! My husband says he “just stays at home” with our son and I always correct him in public, proudly showing him off as my amazing stay-at-home-dad! Students say this too when they are not “working…” They say they are “just going to school.” You are absolutely right and I love this post. Everything we do with love, passion, and hard work is never “just” anything!

Yes! It’s amazing how a little word like just can really change a whole sentence around. Love this!
